Re/Max Desert Showcase in Peoria recently held its fourth annual School Supplies Drive to support Clarendon School in Phoenix. Held last month at Rock Bottom Restaurant in Glendale, the benefit generated more than $600 in needed supplies for disadvantaged students at the school, which serves about 500 students in grades 4-6. Supplies included 12,195 sheets of notebook paper, 2,831 pencils, 3,334 crayons, 435 notebooks, and 256 pocket folders, which were delivered this month. Telecom Manufacturer Coalition Files Appeal Brief to FCC
The Ad Hoc Manufacturers, a group of telecom manufacturers, today filed a brief in response to the U.S. Court of Appeals to support the Federal Communication Commission's (FCC) order restricting local franchising regulation of video services for new entrants into the video market. The manufacturers' coalition believes that the recent reforms made by the FCC would help promote network deployment and increase competition in the video service market and that the court's decision should be overturned because there was record evidence to support the FCC's ruling. Today's brief was filed to the Court of Appeals to demonstrate that record evidence. The brief states, "record evidence provided by many parties, including telecom manufacturers, showed that local franchise regulation of new entrants into the video service market was slowing the deployment of new broadband networks and that the franchising reforms adopted in the order under review would unleash facilities investment and promote competition to the benefit of consumers." The Ad Hoc Telecom Manufacturer Coalition is an informal coalition of 17 companies -- both large and small -- which are engaged in the development of a wide range of hardware and software products used in connection with communication services, including video services.
