| NIITgives away free PCs
Fiji's Institute of Information Technology, which offers NIIT IT courses, today gave away free Pentium 4 PCs to students who enrolled at the institute. This is the first time in Fiji's education history that students are being given a free PC when they enrol for a course. A number of students who enrolled for NIIT's one year Honours Diploma in Information Technology course received the free PC as part of NIIT's major promotion at a student day in Suva. "I am really happy to get this free PC," said Ilisapeci Laliqavota of Cunnigham, the first student to enrol for this course. "This will really help me in my IT studies as I can practise what I learn in class at home. Plus my family can use the computer as well." Institute of Information Technology (Fiji) Limited holds the franchise for NIIT which operates in over 44 countries.
Ottawa group fast-tracking bid for CFL franchise
OTTAWA — The Canadian Football League and an Ottawa-based group with a real estate development background are moving quickly towards an expansion franchise, contingent on the group gaining the rights for the future redevelopment of Lansdowne Park. CFL commissioner Mark Cohon said Tuesday he is excited by the prospect of reaching a deal with local people and not even the recommendation by city staff Monday to demolish the cracked lower deck of the southside stands could dampen Cohon's enthusiasm for a return of the CFL to Ottawa. Partway through his first year as commissioner, Cohon has taken a reserved approach to a return of pro football to Ottawa, saying it would only be done if, and when, the right people stepped forward. Cohon refused to identify the players in the current plans, saying only that the people he is speaking with are heavy hitters, with a “real estate component" and a person with a sports background to operate the franchise.
