| Bruins Beat: The secret to his success
Claude Julien may be new to Boston, but he quickly showed he's not new to the coaching profession. While the veterans reported for physicals and an optional skate to get the Bruins training camp under way yesterday at the Garden, Julien spent nearly a half hour speaking to reporters without revealing any details he did not want to divulge about his plan to turn the floundering franchise around. "You guys are trying to get all my secrets out of me today, and we haven't even been on the ice yet," joked Julien, who comes to Boston after previous coaching stints in Montreal and New Jersey. "You'll see. I don't want to tip my hat on everything I'm going to do." Actually, while Julien refused to take the bait on questions about his plans for specific players, he was quite forthcoming on a number of subjects.
Canucks coach still looking for a few good men
Are you a hockey player with some junior, college or pro experience looking for a way to continue to play at a high level without it interfering with your job and family life? If so, the Cook's Bay Canucks want to hear from you. An expansion franchise in the Ontario Hockey Association's Eastern Ontario Senior Hockey League (EOSHL), the Canucks are currently putting together the roster for the team's inaugural season, and tryouts will continue throughout September at the Stroud Arena. Last month, general manager Dean Williamson took care of one key piece of business by hiring well known, and well-respected local coach John Souilliere as the team's first head coach. Now he is running more than two dozen players through their paces weekly, trying to weed out the wheat from the chaff in order to put a competitive team on the ice in what is a small, but hotly contested league.
