The Inland menu of pizza places is growing again, with Newport Beach-based zpizza planning two new franchised Riverside and Redlands restaurants by early 2008.

Locations have not been announced. A recent company statement said franchisee Erwin Pascua, who is based in Chino Hills, will join 30 other multi-unit franchisees developing zpizza restaurants in California.

The company says it stands out from an ever-expanding slate of pizza competitors by offering "healthy dining" options. Its 17 pizza varieties use ingredients including whole wheat, organic sauces, vegetables and low-fat cheeses, the company said.

Home building goes franchise

Franchising has come to the home-building industry and one Pueblo home builder, Larry Jenkins, said it has several advantages.

Jenkins started Phoenix Homes in Pueblo and became a franchisee with an international company, G. J. Gardner Homes, in June. The former Denver-area home builder said he can get building materials, appliances and marketing for his houses for less and he gets to use a special job-management program that lets him build houses faster.

Being a franchise, Phoenix Homes pays Gardner a percentage of each home's sales price in return for the other franchising benefits. Jenkins said it's been worth it.

"We get the advertising power, the (television) commercials," he said. "We get the the buying power (for materials), so we can keep the prices of the homes lower.
